The CargoX Platform supports many document types and formats, from PDF, JPG, XLSX, etc. This includes various bills of lading, certificates, letters of credit, invoices, reports, claims, etc. Depending on the document type, these documents can have proof of authenticity and a proof of transfer (ownership), proof of authenticity, or no blockchain support. The full list of document types is available in our price list.
Documents with transfer of ownership on blockchain
TYPEThese documents provide a proof of authenticity and a proof of transfer (ownership) on blockchain, and they are completely tracked on the blockchain. Ownership transfer is recorded on blockchain when sending the document. Once sent, the document is no longer in the sender's possession and it can only be viewed as a copy. When the document is finalized (released/accomplished or destroyed), the workflow stops and the document cannot be transferred any more. The complete history of the transfer is available on blockchain. For example a B/L type document is not allowed to be changed while it is being transferred, but it is equally important to know who currently owns it. This is why it requires proof of authenticity and a proof of transfer (tracking authenticity and ownership).
Documents with a record of authenticity
TYPEThese documents provide proof of authenticity (whether the document is an untouched original) on the blockchain. These documents are created on the blockchain and no ownership transfer is recorded there. May be sent to multiple parties. All parties can see when the document is finalized (released/accomplished or destroyed). No transfer history is available on the blockchain.
For example, a distributor of goods gives a copy of the manufacturer's certificate to every retailer. At the same time it is important to know who issued this certificate and that the document you have is still identical to the issued one (and therefore it is the original). That is why it requires proof of authenticity (tracking authenticity).
No blockchain support
TYPEThese documents are transferred completely off-chain as no blockchain record is created for them. A digital trail still exists that you have sent a document and there is proof that the document was received by the recipient. It also proves the document was not intercepted and changed by any third party, hacker, or other person – this is something that email does not provide! Documents with no blockchain support cannot be finalized, recanted, or destroyed.
You can always decide to upgrade a document that originally lacks blockchain support to a document with a record of authenticity and take advantage of all the features that entails. If you want to do so, just mark the checkbox when editing the properties of a document with no blockchain support:
